Episode 88: Is There Anything I Can Do to Prevent Breast Cancer?

November 7, 2017 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feel good day we’ll talk about seven keys to help women keep their hormones in balance and help prevent breast cancer.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:07] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a healthier life.

[2:00] Can you prevent breast cancer?

[2:27] The key component to preventing breast cancer in women is to keep hormones in the proper balance.

[2:51] Dr. Phil shares seven keys to help women keep hormones in balance to help prevent breast cancer.

[3:37] Dr. Phil recommends saliva testing to get accurate cellular results for hormone testing. Reach out to Dr. Phil for more information.

[4:41] What are you eating? Nutrition is key when it comes to our health.

[5:11] Eat more cruciferous foods like kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli sprouts. Alum vegetables such as onion and garlic will also protect against cancer.

[7:31] Love, protect, take care of, and support your liver. Your liver is very important for your overall health as it helps detox your body.

[9:48] Juice half a lemon, add to warm water, and drink in the morning as this can help your bowels and get rid of excess estrogen.

[10:49] Good bacteria, or microbiome, in the gut helps clear excess estrogen in the body and help to regulate estrogen exposure.

[12:05] Medication, stress, and chemicals can destroy the good bacteria in our bodies. You can eat fermented foods and/or take probiotic supplements.

[13:09] Cut the chemicals. These chemicals can act like estrogens in our body and you can end up with estrogen dominance. Reduce exposure as much as possible.

[15:06] Stop smoking. It is easier said than done, but smoking disrupts the balance of hormones in your body and increases your risk of developing cancer.

[18:32] Avoid birth control pills. They increase the risk of breast cancer because they disrupt the balance of hormones in your body.

[20:17] Sleep. Less sleep means more hunger and increased insulin and this causes weight gain. If we are carrying excess weight, we are more at risk for developing cancer. We must have rest to keep our hormones in balance.

[23:16] This episode’s Feeling Good Superhero is Mel. Mel came to Dr. Phil a few years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She wanted to do the right thing to survive cancer. She made the right choice and put action behind her words and followed Dr. Phil’s advice. She is back at work full time, taking care of her family, and doing the things she wants to do. She will continue to do these things and this will help her to not develop cancer again. Keep living that healthy life, Mel.

[25:07] The greatest joys in life come not from you being lifted by others, but rather by others being lifted by you.

[25:24] Dr. Phil thanks you for listening and for spreading the message of natural health and wellness and for sharing the podcast. Please rate and review the podcast, take a screenshot of your podcast review in iTunes, email it to: [email protected], and Dr. Phil will send you a free copy of his new book, How to Live Until You Die: The 7 Keys to Living Happy Healthy and Whole.

[26:44] Check out Carson Natural Health on Facebook, and join Dr. Phil every Friday, during the noonday hour, Central Time, for his weekly Facebook Live broadcast called Feeling Good Fridays—broadcast from a different location every week.

“It is extremely important [for women] to keep estrogen levels in the right balance.”

“Most often breast cancer is not genetic; it is lifestyle driven because estrogen levels get way out of balance.”

“Eat more of the cruciferous vegetables and foods…they all contain…indole-3-carbinol which has been shown to block cancer growth.”

“Add more colors to your plate.”

“The good bacteria…work to help protect us against cancer. They help support our immune system.”

“Getting the proper amount of sleep and getting quality sleep is extremely important if you want to keep your hormones in balance.”

Episode 87: I Have Cancer, Should I Exercise?

November 7, 2017 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feel good day we’ll discuss a question many people ask, “Should I exercise if I have cancer?” We’ll talk about what factors to consider and the many benefits of regular exercise.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:07] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a healthier life.

[1:33] Dr. Phil recommends continuing to exercise if you have cancer.

[3:10] Making exercise a part of your daily routine can help you deal with the toll that cancer treatment can take on your body.

[3:42] Exercise is important not only to keep your body strong, but is beneficial for your mood and outlook on your recovery.

[ 3:53] Exercise is one of the best treatments for depression and many people have to battle with depression when dealing with cancer.

[4:29] There is a link between physical activity and quality of life for everyone, and especially cancer patients.

[5:04] How can exercise help?

[5:58] You may not be able to exercise at the same intensity level as before your cancer treatments, but you can continue.

[6:50] Dr. Phil shares guidelines to help cancer patients.

[9:01] Remember to monitor your heartrate and breathing; you don’t have to push yourself too hard.

[9:42] It’s important to stay in communication with your doctors.

[9:56] Dr. Phil recommends his personal, virtual trainer Jeff McMahon, who also works with cancer patients. You can find Jeff at totalbodyconstruction.com and he would be happy to help you or direct you to others who could help with your exercise goals.

[11:23] This episode’s Feeling Good Superhero is my dad. Several years ago my dad was diagnosed with CLL, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, and after that he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Four years ago he was really suffering, he struggled getting out of bed and off the couch. He was using pain medication and was also taking medication for diabetes. He wasn’t doing well at all. However, someone gave him some sound advice at church and suggested he talk to someone they knew who also had CLL. This person was able to talk through things with him and give him some advice on things that had worked well for him. He started sleeping on heating pad at night, walking every day, and eating cleaner. He took a few steps and kept building on it. Before long he was walking a mile and he now walks four miles a day. He still has the leukemia, but I have no doubt the exercise is what has helped him to be stronger than his disease. He does a lot of things other 74 years olds can’t, even those without cancer. Dr. Phil thanks his dad for being our superhero of the day.

[14:46] The greatest joys in life come not from you being lifted by others, but rather by others being lifted by you.

[15:08] Dr. Phil thanks you for listening and for spreading the message of natural health and wellness and for sharing the podcast. Episode 86: What Can I Do to Keep From Getting So Sick As I Go Through Chemo?

October 15, 2017 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Dr. Phil talks about nutritional therapy and how it can help anyone preparing to undergo chemotherapy for their cancer treatment.

Key Takeaways:

[1:06] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you with any health issues you may have.

[1:37] What can you do to keep from feeling bad as you go through chemo treatments?

[3:07] Malnutrition is a major problem for cancer patients.

[3:45] Cancer and the treatment affect the appetite and how the bodies uses the foods we eat.

[4:59] The effects of cancer can be varied and may include: loss of appetite, changes in taste and smell, nausea and vomiting, gain/loss of weight, mouth sores, difficulty swallowing, fatigue, GI issues, and depression.

[5:50] When our body doesn’t get the nutrition it needs, it can’t heal or recover in the proper way.

[7:22] The benefits of nutritional therapy during cancer treatments are that it supports immune system function, preserves the lean body mass, helps to rebuild body tissues, increases energy and strength, decreases risk of infection, and improves quality of life.

[8:16] How can you maintain good nutrition?

[8:41] Be on a well-balanced diet with balanced nutrition, take vitamin and mineral supplementation, protein smoothies that include vital nutrients, and take natural products that can help with nausea or constipation or diarrhea issues.

[12:10] One of the best things to do for depression during cancer treatment is to get outside and get some sunshine and connect with nature.

[13:07] Some people practice “grounding” where they walk outside on the grass barefoot. This can help with depression.

[13:48] This episode’s Feeling Good Superhero is Brenda. She asked Dr. Phil what she could do to keep from getting so sick during her chemo treatments. We talked about taking probiotics and getting the right food source nutrients as she endured chemo. Brenda followed through and is now a cancer survivor. She didn’t suffer the malnutrition issues some people experience while going through chemo. Her preventative measures helped her to thrive and survive.

[16:28] The greatest joys in life come not from you being lifted by others, but rather by others being lifted by you.

[16:44] Dr.
