On this Feeling Good episode, Dr. Phil reminds listeners of changes for the podcast this year, including expert guests once or twice a month. Dr. Phil will also be sharing listener questions, stories, research and news pertaining to all things health, wellness, and fitness. The new format starts today! Dr. Phil introduces a special guest, Jeff McMahon, his personal trainer, and asks questions about healthy eating, healthy workouts without injuries, and healthy living.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[3:32] Dr. Phil announces the new format starts today, with a special guest. Dr. Phil hopes you are still on your fitness plan, and he encourages you to stay on track and do not quit. His new book, How to Live Until You Die: The 7 Keys to Living Happy, Healthy and Whole, can help you succeed to do just that, in body, soul and spirit.

[4:33] The book is now live on Amazon, but Dr. Phil is still offering special pre-launch packages, with an autographed copy, plus some awesome bonuses. Go to HowToLiveUntilYouDie.com to take advantage of this limited-time offer.

[5:30] Jeff McMahon is Dr. Phil’s personal trainer, and his guest today. Jeff is in Ohio, and works virtually with Dr. Phil. Jeff is dual certified in exercise science and sports medicine. He works with people anywhere for goal setting, injuries, cancer, triathlons, and whatever your goals. Jeff started online with his stroke survivor mother and others.

[8:57] It’s 2017 and time for a new start. Sometimes it doesn’t last. Jeff has these suggestions. If you get started, and lose a few pounds, don’t lose your urgency. Don’t return to old habits. A quick fix is no answer. Your health is long-term. Make sure you will be around for grandchildren. Dr. Phil mentioned a podcast, “Your 100 Year Plan.”

[12:47] Some injuries stop people from working out. The three most common injuries are: Knee, from improper squats or sitting — use your heels, not your toes; Lower back — lie flat on the floor and try to squeeze your navel to your back, do bridges and walking lunges; Shoulders — do proper push ups with thumbs under nipples, press up.

[17:32] People don’t realize how hard it is to have a healthy lifestyle. If you want to see a transformation, you have to be active a minimum of four days, up to six days, a week. Go for a walk of 10,000 steps. Use resistance training. Eat healthy at least six days a week. Live life in the majority, meaning, live healthy the majority of the time.

[20:16] In Dr. Phil’s book, How to Live Until You Die: The 7 Keys to Living Happy, Healthy and Whole, he has a chapter on exercise. Dr. Phil stresses to start somewhere. Don’t be sedentary. Jeff says walking is great. It increases your endorphins, and you feel happier, you talk more, helping relationships. 10,000 steps a day can burn 4 pounds a month.
