Episode 114: You’re Not Allergic, You’re Just Sensitive — Or Wait, Maybe You’re Intolerant!

June 8, 2018 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feeling good day Dr. Phil turns our attention to food allergies in the midst of all of the seasonal allergy discussions we’ve been having. He breaks down the difference between a food allergy, sensitivity, and intolerance — and gives his recommendations to help improve your symptoms to certain substances.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[:59] Go to CarsonNatural.com/Resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a more healthy and vibrant life.

[1:26] With celebrations comes a lot of food! If you’re like Dr. Phil, you’re allergic, sensitive, or intolerant to some foods and you have to avoid!

[2:51] The primary difference between an allergy, a sensitivity, and an intolerance. Dr. Phil talks about some of his intolerances. For more information visit: CarsonNatural.com/BeatAllergies and the Carson Natural HealthFacebook page.

[7:42] Dr. Phil defines ‘sensitivity’: “A reaction to a substance which is actually an exaggeration of a normal side effect (produced by that substance).” He gives some examples, explains how they can manifest, and shares his own experience with sensitivity.

[10:25] Dr. Phil defines ‘intolerance’, explains how it occurs, his own experience with intolerance, the results and symptoms, and reasons why you may be intolerant.

[12:45] The causes of symptoms need to be correctly diagnosed so the management and treatment of the allergy, sensitivity, or the intolerance can be appropriately taken. If you don’t know which you have, you need to see a professional to be sure.

[13:12] Allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances should all really be taken seriously because they can cause some major problems. Treatments are available to reduce the severity of the response to something or eliminate the response all-together.

[13:48] The most important step is to just avoid exposure to the offending substance all-together.

[14:12] If you have a strong healthy immune system it can help prevent allergy symptoms and sensitivities. Dr. Phil recommends probiotics to keep your gut healthy which will greatly support the immune system.

[15:22] Our Feeling Good Superhero of the day is Dr. Frank King. He was teaching a technique he used in his practice at a conference called “Muscle Testing” or “Kinesiology” to test if someone has a sensitivity or intolerance to a substance. You take the substance and put it on your tongue. Dr. Frank tried this out on Dr. Phil by putting a piece of cheese on his tongue — and when he did, Dr. Phil lost all muscle strength in his arm! This could help you determine if you have a sensitivity as well. Thanks to Dr. Frank King for being our Feeling Good Superhero of the day!

Episode 112: How Can a Honeybee Save Me From This Allergy Misery?

June 8, 2018 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feeling good day we discuss how raw, unprocessed, local honey can help prevent allergy symptoms. Not only is honey a delicious treat — but it can help you this allergy season!

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:04] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a more healthy and vibrant life.

[1:24] So thankful that some of the rain is washing away the pollen! Today’s question is: “How can a honeybee save me from this allergy misery?” And the answer is: Yes! A honeybee can help combat these crazy pollen allergies.

[2:06] Raw, unprocessed, local honey can help prevent allergy symptoms. Dr. Phil highly recommends it if you are interested in trying it.

[3:00] Honey treats allergies in a similar way to getting an allergy shot. When you adjust local honey, you’re ingesting local pollen which makes you less sensitive to the pollen.

[3:27] In 2013 a study was done on the effectiveness of local honey on the symptoms of rhinitis which put a lot of validity behind the use of local honey to help allergies.

[5:00] Another study, directed at improving birch pollen allergies, found that patients experienced 60% reduction in symptoms.

[6:11] Have you ever tried local honey to treat allergies? Send Dr. Phil an email to let him know if it has or hasn’t worked for you.

[7:00] Consuming the honey before allergy season begins (and continuing throughout) provides the best benefits.

[7:23] Dr. Phil’s notes of cautions: Do not give honey to babies under 1 years old, and if you’re diabetic eat the honey with a meal and keep a watch on your blood sugar levels.

[8:07] Dr. Phil’s free, comprehensive resource on allergies: CarsonNatural.com/BeatAllergies.

[8:43] This episode’s Feeling Good Superheroes are all of the beekeepers that are doing an awesome job out there with the bee population, keeping bees healthy, and producing raw, unprocessed, delicious honey! Thanks to all the hardworking beekeepers — keep up the good work!

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feel good day, Dr. Phil brings back an episode from last spring to help remind those of you suffering from springtime allergies about some natural products and solutions.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:15] Dr. Phil has added a new resource on CarsonNatural.com/Resources about natural allergy relief.

[1:20] The topic today is about allergy relief. A healthy immune system is key to protecting yourself this allergy season but sometimes we need more help — so Dr. Phil brings you a bonus replay episode from on natural supplements on allergy relief.

[3:10] Spring has officially begun and Dr. Phil discusses allergy symptoms.

[4:01] What can you take for allergies that won’t cause undesirable side effects?

[5:06] Allerplex is a synergistic formula of natural ingredients that helps our bodies fight off allergy symptoms and support our bodies ability to manage the mucus that forms and helps with lung and respiratory function.

[5:51] Antronex is a natural histamine that supports the body’s normal detoxification functions.

[6:35] What kind of homeopathic products can you use to control allergies?

[8:29] Dr. Phil recommends another natural product called, Pycnogenol, which prevents the release of histamine from the histamine releasing cells in our body. It is a powerful antioxidant compound that is found in grape seed extract and pine bark extract.

[10:36] This episode’s Feeling Good Superhero is Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD. He has a clinic in Washington state and taught some of the courses Dr. Phil took in natural medicine years ago. He first introduced Dr. Phil to Pycnogenol years ago and it has made a huge difference in Dr. Phil’s life in dealing with his allergies. Dr. Wright has helped many people across the world by teaching them about natural medicine.

[12:30] The greatest joys in life come not from you being lifted by others, but rather by others being lifted by you.

Episode 110: Can You Naturally Balance Your Immune System?

June 8, 2018 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feeling good day we’ll be discussing natural solutions and supplements to help restore balance in the immune system.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:03] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a healthier life.

[1:59] Is there a way to naturally balance the immune system?

[2:25] With autoimmune disorders the immune system is out of balance. It’s described as an overactive immune system.

[2:44] Balance needs to be restored to recover from an autoimmune disorder. The typical treatment is to suppress the immune system and control the symptoms.

[3:14] In Dr. Phil’s opinion, the treatment should be focused on restoring balance; not suppressing it with drugs.

[3:45] There has been recent development in treating autoimmune disorders through regulating and balancing the immune system by addressing the thymus gland and restoring thymic function for immune support.

[4:41] The thymus gland is essentially your immune system gland. It is a small gland, located about the breast bone. It weighs about 10z at its peak and shrinks as we age.

[5:22] Age-related atrophy of the gland will gradually rob our body’s ability to fight off infection, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. It’s a natural part of aging but it’s important to do your part in keeping your thymus gland healthy.

[6:20] Dr. Phil believes that keeping your thymus gland healthy is key to a healthy immune system. Thymic Protein A, a supplement developed by Dr. Terry Beardsley, can help you protect yourself against viral infections.

[8:29] There have been studies that show the supplement can help those with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. There have also been animal studies with positive results in treating viral infections.

[9:02] Reach out to Dr. Phil if you, or someone you know, has any more questions about autoimmune disorders.

[9:25] Check out the Nutrition Review article on Thymic Protein A.

[9:36] Dr. Phil urges you to treat autoimmune disorder holistically and not just with powerful drugs.

[10:34] The immune system needs to be modulated; not suppressed.

[10:43] Dr. Phil recommends the brand Proboost for the Thymic Protein A supplement that can be found in the Carson Natural online store.

[11:09] This episode’s Feeling Good Superhero is someone who has actually used Thymic Protein A; Dr. Carson Burgstiner, an OBGYN who accidentally stuck a needle in himself and contracted Hepatitis C from a patient of his. He set out to find a cure and discovered Thymic Protein A. He began using the supplement and ended up completely curing his Hepatitis. He also produced great results from using the supplement with his patients that had autoimmune disorders. Thanks to Dr. Carson Burgstiner for being our feeling good superhero today and may he rest in peace.

Episode 109: Are There Any Natural Solutions for Sjögren’s Syndrome?

June 8, 2018 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feeling good day we’ll be discussing natural solutions to help with the symptoms of Sjögren’s syndrome.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:08] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a healthier life.

[2:06] Sjögren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that affects the salivary and tear glands and reduces the amount of saliva and tears you can produce which leads to a dry mouth and dry eyes.

[3:05] Sjögren’s syndrome can develop along other autoimmune disorders or it can happen alone.

[3:58] There are natural solutions to help with Sjögren’s syndrome.

[4:49] Consuming a well balanced diet will supply your body with the correct nutrients. You can also incorporate moistening foods so your food is easier to swallow.

[5:17] Drink a lot of water and consume water with meals.

[5:34] Eat foods with plenty of fiber to help with proper bowel function.

[5:38] Avoid foods that might be irritating to the mouth such as alcohol, spicy, or salty foods.

[5:59] Many studies have shown that an anti-inflammatory diet and including omega-3 rich foods, (such as fish, nuts, and seeds), in your diet can help to improve the symptoms of Sjögren’s syndrome.

[6:54] Food hypersensitivities might be making your symptoms worse. Many people are learning they are gluten-sensitive. Studies show that there is a higher level of gluten sensitivity in Sjögren’s patients.

[7:56] Exercise has been shown to significantly improve the effects of Sjögren’s syndrome. Consistency is the key with exercise.

[8:46] Acupuncture can improve the symptoms associated with Sjögren’s syndrome; especially with dry eye symptoms.

[9:37] If you aren’t getting enough Omega-3’s in your diet, then consider taking a supplement. This can help with dry eyes.

[10:44] There is an Omega 6 fatty acid, or GLA, that also has anti-inflammatory properties and can help relieve symptoms as well. You may find a combination product with both the GLA and Omega-3 in one.

[11:35] White peony extract can also help reduce inflammation and regulate the immune system. Some studies say it can help improve salivary flow and tear production.

[12:41] Vitamin D helps modulate the immune system and suppress autoimmunity. Get your Vitamin D levels checked and aim to have a level within the optimal range (between 50 and 60).

[13:50] NAC is an amino acid product that has been shown to stimulate saliva flow and tear secretion as well.

[14:37] The maqui berry is a tropical berry that is rich in antioxidants. It’s extract can provide health benefits, including helping with tear volume.

[15:15] Probiotics, the good bacteria in our bodies, can help people with Sjögren’s syndrome to help promote good bacteria in the mouth. You can try fermented food or use a probiotic supplement.

[16:52] Be sure you have enough iron, B12, and folic acid as some individuals with Sjögren’s syndrome have an iron deficiency.

[18:06] Try implementing just a few solutions and don’t try to do them all at once.

[18:10] Work on balancing the immune system to help with autoimmune disorders.

[19:05] Check out Carson Natural Health on Facebook, and join Dr. Phil every Friday, during the noonday hour, Central Time, for his weekly Facebook Live broadcast called Feeling Good Fridays—broadcast from a different location every week.

Episode 108: How Can I Prevent ‘Montezuma’s Revenge’ while living in Central America?

June 8, 2018 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feel good day we will talk about how to prevent a case of Montezuma’s Revenge on your next mission trip.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:04] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a healthier life.

[2:09] What can you do to prevent Montezuma’s Revenge when on a mission trip?

[2:49] When you have Montezuma’s Revenge your bowel functions are all out of order.

[3:07] The number one thing you can do to prevent diarrhea is to start taking probiotics a few days before you head out on your trip and continue to take them daily.

[4:16] Probiotics are important for gut health and immune support.

[4:33] When people go to foreign countries their immune system or their gut, is not prepared for the foods and drinks that may possibly contain certain bacteria that they are not used to getting.

[4:57] Probiotics are vital for a healthy immune system. They are good bacteria called microflora which help protect us from bad organisms.

[5:33] If you have a sufficient supply of good bacteria and you are invaded by bad bacteria, then you likely won’t get sick. Dr. Phil recommends you take probiotics before traveling to other countries.

[6:39] What kind of probiotics should you take?

[7:22] Dr. Phil suggests finding a broad spectrum probiotic that has variety of microflora in them.

[7:51] Dr. Phil recommends two brands of probiotics: Enterobiotic SBO by Natural Creations or Garden of Life Primal Defense.

[9:48] Probiotics can save you a lot of trouble and a lot of discomfort and help you do more effective work on your mission trip.

[10:22] This episode’s Feeling Good Superheroes are Edward and Jamie. Edward went on a mission trip to Africa and Dr. Phil told him to take probiotics before he left and while he was on his trip. When he returned, Edward gathered some friends together to tell them about his mission trip. He told a story about when everyone in the group got terribly sick, but he was the only one who wasn’t huddled up on the floor sick. He protected himself. Jamie went on a trip to Central America with his family and did not take probiotics and he and his family got sick and got all the stomach issues. He called Dr. Phil to ask him what he should do and Dr. Phil suggested they go get some kombucha drinks and probiotics, which they did and they were better the rest of the mission trip. Thanks to Edward and Jamie for being our feeling good superheroes today.

Episode 107: What Can I Do About Low Testosterone?

March 21, 2018 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feeling good day we’ll talk about what to do if your doctor says your testosterone is low, but you don’t want to take shots or apply a messy cream everyday. There are natural solutions you can try that are effective and can help to restore optimal testosterone levels.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:18] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a healthier life.

[1:40] The information in this show is primarily for men, but it will be helpful for women as well as they help the men in their lives.

[2:33] Dr. Phil’s friends reached out to him because their doctor said their testosterone is low, but they want to raise their levels naturally without creams or shots.

[3:02] Low testosterone levels can occur in women, too.

[3:29] Since testerone is the primary male hormone it is important for us to keep it within an optimal range. These optimal levels will change as you age.

[4:01] Dr. Phil does hormone testing for people all of the time. Dr. Phil recommends that men have a complete male hormone panel done.

[5:04] All hormone components should be checked.

[5:35] Dr. Phil shares his own personal story of having a complete male hormone panel done, which is a saliva test, and when he received his results he knew some hormones were not within the optimal range.

[7:19] After being tested, Dr. Phil started taking certain supplements which would help his body do what it is designed to do.

[7:59] DHEA, Tribulus, Orchic PMG, and weight training, were all natural solutions Dr. Phil implemented after learning his hormones were out of balance.

[9:55] After a year of following this protocol, Dr. Phil had his hormones checked again, and he had tremendous improvement in his numbers.

[10:21] Dr. Phil believes that doing anything naturally is worth a try before you try using a chemical or drug to raise your testosterone levels.

[11:07] It is common for men in their late 50’s to have low testosterone, but Dr. Phil is seeing it more and more in younger men and believes it is due to the toxic environment we are exposed to, as well as toxic foods we put in our bodies that can disrupt hormonal balance.

[11:49] Detoxing and cleansing can also help a lot of people to restore hormonal balance.

[12:36] Contact Dr. Phil with any questions or concerns at [email protected]

[12:57] This episode’s Feeling Good Superheroes are Dan and Paul and all of the men who are looking to improve their health and life and to raise their testosterone levels in a natural way.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:10] Go to carsonnatural.com/resources for a variety of free resources to help you live a healthier life.

[1:36] Dr. Phil is recording from San Diego, CA.

[2:27] Why can’t you lose weight even though you feel like you are doing everything you are supposed to be doing?

[3:45] A friend of Dr. Phil’s said his wife is eating clean, working out six days a week and still cannot lose weight. The problem could be hormonal imbalance.

[4:12] Many doctors recommend a hysterectomy to remedy hormonal problems, but this doesn’t always correct the underlying cause of the hormone problems.

[5:12] Men and women have the same basic hormones, but different levels of those hormones.

[5:38] All hormone levels can be checked with blood tests and the sex and adrenal hormones can be tested by saliva readings.

[6:57] As we age our hormones change, but our hormones should remain at optimal levels in order to stay healthy.

[7:38] A major problem with women, is estrogen dominance. Estrogen levels may be normal, but progesterone levels are below normal or vice versa. This is one of the first things to check if you cannot seem to lose weight.

[8:29] The thyroid and adrenal glands should also be checked as they need to be kept in balance.

[9:36] Check into having your hormone levels checked and you may find the answers that you need.

[9:53] Dr. Phil can help you with any questions you may have regarding hormonal imbalance. Reach out to him at carsonnatural.com give you some direction and advice.

[10:18] This episode’s Feeling Good Superhero is Janet. Janet was dealing with many hormone issues. Dr. Phil checked all of Janet’s hormone levels and discovered that they were way out of balance. Janet is now working to restore balance by doing a detox program and taking supplements, and she is already seeing some tremendous results.

If you are wondering if your hormones may be out of balance, please reach out for help so you don’t continue to suffer. You don’t want these symptoms to limit your life.

[12:06] You need a plan to follow and and a coach that can help you stay committed to your goals. Dr. Phil has a plan that can help you to get off of the weight loss roller coaster and maintain good health. A detox plan can help you to restore hormonal balance.

Bonus: Some Things Are Worth Repeating (Episode 075: How Can We Put All Heart Doctors Out of Business?)

March 21, 2018 by Phil Carson Leave a Comment

Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feel good day we’ll talk about heart health and how you can practice heart-healthy habits that will help protect you against heart disease.

Key Takeaways from This Podcast:

[1:31] Dr. Phil answers a question he has received several times: How can a 20-year-old have a heart attack? Listen in to find out what can be done to keep it from happening.

[1:54] Take a screenshot of your podcast review in iTunes, email it to: [email protected], and Dr. Phil will send you a free copy of his new book, How to Live Until You Die: The 7 Keys to Living Happy Healthy and Whole. After reading the book, it would be awesome if you left a review of it on Amazon.com!

[3:03] A friend of mine’s son, 20-year-old Ben, actually did have a heart attack. I got a call from Ben’s father, asking me what was going on with Ben. After talking with Ben for a moment, I encouraged them to get to the emergency room immediately. They called me from the ER. Ben did have a heart attack, was being treated, and was going to be OK.

[4:11] It was unbelievable for this to be happening to a young man that appears to be in really good health. But he’s not. You don’t have a heart attack if you’re in really good health. People may look healthy, but have silent inflammation in their blood vessels.

[4:53] Many of you have probably heard of young athletes falling dead on the football field; falling dead on the basketball court; or maybe after practice, they get home and fall over dead. I can tell you of a few stories in our local area where that has happened.

[5:32] Ben has been an active band member for years and is in the marching band. Band members sweat just as much as the football players do, if not more. They end up, some of them, like Ben, with heart issues, with cardiomyopathy. That’s what Ben was diagnosed with, cardiomyopathy. Ben’s doing well. So many don’t make it.

[6:41] It doesn’t have to happen. A cardiologist was interviewed on local TV, and said all heart doctors could be put out of business if people would do these four things: eat right, exercise, manage their weight, and stop smoking. Heart disease is the number one killer where I live, here in the Deep South, in Mississippi. It doesn’t have to be.

[7:46] People won’t do these four simple things. They don’t know they have a problem. It goes undetected. Ben will tell you, he was not eating right, and he was not doing one of the most important things that’s part of eating right, and that’s drinking water.

[8:37] Minerals can be added to water. One of the early signs that there’s a problem is cramps. The muscles ache, and there is weakness, because of the electrolytes being low. Electrolytes are needed for a healthy heart. You’ve got to have them.

[9:07] Exercise is another key to preventing heart problems, no matter what your age is. Consistent exercise — you’ve got to do it. Find something you like; do it consistently.

[9:32] Another thing that this doctor talked about was managing your weight. If you’re eating right, you’re drinking water instead of sodas and sweet drinks, and exercising consistently, you’re going to maintain your weight.

[10:06] The other thing he said, is stop smoking. There’s plenty of evidence to show the dangers of smoking, and how it can affect your heart. If you are a smoker, stop. Get somebody to help you. When you quit smoking, the damage can be reversed, over time.

[10:47] There’s one other thing, though, that I want to mention, and this was an issue with Ben. Ben is a high achiever, pushing himself. He put a lot of stress on himself. And of course, he had external stresses. Everybody does. If we don’t properly manage stress it can have a detrimental effect on our heart health.

[12:04] There are the five simple things that you can implement into your lives and put into practice on a day-to-day basis, that could help prevent a heart attack.

[13:01] So, I encourage you, no matter what your age is, start taking the necessary actions today, to take better care of your heart, to take better care of your overall health. I’d love to see people living with strong healthy hearts, and living vibrant lives.

[13:35] If you know somebody like Ben, a young person that’s pushing themselves hard — they’re an athlete, or they’re a band member, or something else where they’re pushing themselves really hard — and not taking care of their bodies, talk to them. Say, “Hey, I want to help you. Are you considering this?” Have them go to a docto Have health questions?
