This whole month of May is National Arthritis Awareness month, so for the next two weeks I will be looking closely at two types of arthritis. We’ll look at why they occur, changes we can make to help prevent it, and supplements that delay and/or prevent it from becoming a problem in your life.
Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent form of arthritis and is most common in people over the age of 65. I believe that most people can prevent this degenerative disease by implementing the following protective and preventative measures into their daily lifestyle. First and foremost for would be proper hydration of the body. Each time a joint moves, your body releases a small amount of water to lubricate the joint. When you fail to adequately hydrate, your body will run out of lubricant, your bones and cartilage begin to wear down, and you’re on the path to arthritis. A simple Google search of arthritis and proper hydration (which I’ve done for you) will reveal just how many health professionals agree that proper hydration prevents all types of arthritis. Proper hydration is essential for our health in the first place, but I believe especially important in preventing Osteoarthritis. One of the causes of Osteoarthritis is known to be overuse of particular joints in our body. How many former baseball players, especially pitchers, do you know whose shoulders just don’t quite work anymore? In most cases that is simply from overuse and under-rest. Your body will let you know when you are overusing or abusing it in a specific area. By listening to our bodies and making sure that we stop and give it rest when it needs it, we can prevent Osteoarthritis. The body naturally begins to deteriorate as we age, but we can slow down this process with proper supplementation. There are a variety of good supplements on the market today to help prevent the deterioration of our joints, delaying or all together preventing Osteoarthritis. Below are three of my favorite supplements for the delay and/or prevention of Osteoarthritis are Glucosamine/MSM, ProOmega Fish Oil, and Wobenzym N.
Glucosamine/MSM
MSM is a naturally-occurring compound that is found in significant amounts of nerve tissue, skin, hair, and joints. Dietary supplementation of MSM can help support the creation of new cells and connective tissue and help produce healthy muscles and flexible joints.
I’ve been taking for the past two months. My skin became noticeably clearer; I don’t have any new nodules, and the inflammation soothed too. My dermatologist says we are at the final stage of treatment, so I’m looking forward to seeing what I will look like in some weeks. Anyway, I’m already happy with the result.
