Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. On this feel good day we talk about the role sunlight and vitamin D play in our overall health and how you can make sure you are getting enough vitamin D for optimal health.
Key Takeaways from This Podcast:
[1:54] What if the sun was blocked everyday like it was for a few minutes during the eclipse?
[2:07] We need sunlight for health and for life.
[2:46] Dr. Phil often reminds people that our bodies will naturally produce vitamin D if we get enough sunlight.
[3:17] Dr. Phil recommends getting twenty minutes of sun exposure everyday during your lunch hour.
[4:40] A recent study proves that sunlight exerts important biological effects on human skin as well as strengthen the immune system.
[7:20] We all know sunlight provides vitamin D, but it also plays another role upon our immunity. T-cells need to move to the site of an infection in order to work, and sunlight can increase the movement of these cells.
[8:16] Another study in Europe was completed with immune-deficient patients who took 4,000 units of Vitamin D and then another group who took placebos. Those taking the Vitamin D had significantly better health.
[9:50] If you are getting chronic infections you may want to check your Vitamin D levels.
[10:17] Tiredness, general aches and pains or more severe issues such as pain in bones, difficulty getting around, or frequent infections may indicate a Vitamin D deficiency.
[11:12] How do you know if your Vitamin D levels are normal? Why is it important to have an optimal level? The optimal level of Vitamin D should be between 50 and 80.
[12:53] Check out the Immune Defense Summit to learn some new ideas to help you to keep your immune system strong and healthy before the winter comes.
[13:30] This episode’s Feeling Good Superhero is Kim Carson, Dr. Phil’s wife. Last year Kim was preparing for her annual checkup with her doctor and Dr. Phil recommended she have her vitamin D levels checked. When Kim asked the nurse, the nurse said, “Oh, you don’t need to do that.” Kim insisted on the test, so they followed through with the test, and Kim learned that her vitamin D levels were indeed low. She is now getting more sun exposure and taking vitamin D. Thanks to Kim for fighting for her vitamin D level to get checked.
[16:31] The greatest joys in life come not from you being lifted by others, but rather by others being lifted by you.

Prednisone is really great when it comes to the treatment of obstructive pulmonary disease. It lets me breathe and be able to live a life similar to what healthy people live. However, the long-term use of the drug resulted in significant weight gain. I got about 40 extra pounds, and my appetite is almost uncontrollable. It’s hard, but I won’t give up treatment.
