I promised in my last blog that I would share a success story with all of you. I hope this story encourages you if you’re currently dealing with infertility. So without further ado, Adelae’s story, told by her mother…
As a lot of young girls do, I always dreamed of growing up and getting married and being a mommy one day. When that day finally came and I got married I immediately wanted to start a family. I was so excited and the thought that I could have problems getting pregnant never even crossed my mind. Every month I would pray and get excited about the thought of getting that positive pregnancy test. Several months went by and I was still not pregnant. Three years after we were married I was still not pregnant and we moved from Iowa to Mississippi. After moving, the longing to be a mommy only grew stronger. Prior to the move I had already started to get discouraged and started wondering why I wasn’t getting pregnant. My monthly cycles had been very erratic and I was going months without a period, and I would also have times when I would bleed for weeks at a time. I knew from talking with other friends that infertility testing and treatment was very expensive. I hadn’t been to any doctors to do any testing at this point because my husband and I were both students in college during our time in Iowa and we did not have insurance.
After moving to Mississippi my cycles only continued to get worse. After 3 months of continuous bleeding I finally decided to go see a doctor. The doctor did a CBC on me and my hemoglobin was 8. She immediately set me up with an appointment to see a gynecologist. At my first gynecologist appointment the doctor gave me a prescription for Prometrium to stop the bleeding. His plan was to get the bleeding stopped and then at my next appointment he would do a Hysterosonogram and pap smear to try and find out what was causing my vaginal bleeding. Before my appointment for my Hysterosconogram I spoke with Phil Carson about what was going on. He suggested that I do saliva testing to check and see what my progesterone and estrogen levels were. He said more than likely I was estrogen dominant and deficient in progesterone and that I needed to get them in balance. He also talked to me about diet and exercise because I was overweight and that could also be contributing to my infertility. I wanted to get pregnant so badly that at this point I was willing to start doing anything I had to in order to have a baby. So during my next appointment with my gynecologist I discussed with him my plans to work with Phil to check my hormones and regulate them in order to get them in balance so I could conceive. My gynecologist was very skeptical of my plan and told me that while Phil was a good friend of his and he respected him, he didn’t think it would work. He suggested that I try the drug Metformin because he had some women successfully get pregnant while taking it. He said that if I didn’t get pregnant with Metformin then we would try the drug Clomid next. I politely declined and told him I wanted to try the natural route first and if it didn’t work I would think about the taking Metformin. The gynecologists told me he didn’t think it would work and that when I was ready to try the drug to come back and he would prescribe it to me. After that appointment I did the saliva testing. The results came back as Phil had expected. I was estrogen dominant and very deficient in progesterone. Phil took the time to explain all of my test results to me, he came up with a regimen of natural supplements, and encouraged me to exercise and change my eating habits.
About 4 months after I started all of this I went to see Phil again because I really wanted to add Natural Progesterone Cream to what I was already doing. Phil agreed and I started using that during certain weeks out of the month. 2 months after I added the progesterone cream I got a positive pregnancy test!! I was so shocked and wanted to make sure I really was pregnant that I woke my husband up at 5:30 in the morning and made him to go Wal-Mart and buy every brand of pregnancy tests they had! Every test came back positive! Nine months later I gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl! My journey of infertility was about 5 ½ years from the time we started trying until we finally conceived. During this entire process we prayed without ceasing and we believed God would be faithful to give us the desire of our heart for a child. We believe that God can do and still does do miracles and that He can supernaturally heal whatever the cause of infertility is and woman can conceive. Sometimes however, God uses the wisdom He gives man to give us our miracle. God heard our prayers and the prayers of many wonderful friends who prayed and believed with us for a child, and He used Phil Carson and his wisdom and knowledge to bring us our miracle, Adalae. She is now 6 years old and in kindergarten and she is our favorite answered prayer! If you are struggling with infertility, I encourage you first to pray! Prayer works! Second, I would encourage anyone struggling with infertility to look into saliva testing and have your hormones checked.
