Are you ready to live? Really live that feeling good life you desire to live? Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Feeling Good Podcast, it’s great to be alive. The big questions this week are, “Why,” “Why did this happen,” “Why do bad things happen to good people,” and, “What do we do, when faced with tragedy and sorrow?”
Key Takeaways from This Podcast:
[1:30] Please write a review for the podcast. Then, take a screenshot of your review in iTunes, email it to: [email protected], and Dr. Phil will send you a free copy of his new book, How to Live Until You Die: The 7 Keys to Living Happy Healthy and Whole. [2:21] I had a tough, tough week. Last week, I lost a very dear friend in an automobile accident, and her grandson died along with her. Her husband is in critical condition. She had worked for me for many years, and stood by through good and bad. She will be sorely missed by many people. She was special. She loved people, and they loved her.
[3:45] Tyla Toler — not a common name, but a name loved by so many. She was a hard worker, one of those special kinds of people that every business owner looks for to be on their team. She was a team player. She supported everybody else on the team. She was a mother figure to a lot of young girls that worked for our business over the years.
[4:24] She was always there, always working hard, always providing encouragement, and always teaching and helping the younger generation in their work. You just don’t find them like her anymore. I’m a truly blessed person to have had Tyla in my life, and working with me, and helping me over the years.
[4:54] I know there are so many other people that I employed over the years that will tell you the same thing. It’s still a shock, and it’s so tragic that this happened. They — she and her husband, two grandsons, and their friends — were on their way to the beach for a vacation. Thankfully, the other four boys in the car are OK.
[5:21] Her oldest grandson didn’t make it. It’s been a sad, sad week for all of us here, in our little community here in North Mississippi. When something like this happens, it affects a lot of people, because of the small community that we have here. I just want to pay tribute today to my friend, Tyla. She was more of a friend to us than an employee.
[5:49] We loved her dearly, and loved her family. Our hearts go out to them. Our prayers go out for them that have survived. She has two boys that I watched grow up. I know those two boys are hurting right now. Her mom is still alive. She has a brother and a sister, and they’re all hurting right now. That younger grandson, his heart is broken.
[6:19] Why do things like this happen? I don’t know. It’s the world that we live in. Often, bad things like this happen to good people, like Tyla. She was not just good people, she was Godly people. She was a strong Christian woman, that has been through hurt and heartache, but you never would have known it.
[6:56] She always came to work with a smile on her face, and ready to go to work. It’s heartbreaking to all of us. It’s so tough. Tyla was one of those rare people, that was always loyal, always faithful. I have to say, as sad as it is, we have some great, great memories, of all these years. Some happy memories that we can look back on.
[7:28] Often, that’s what we have to do, when we’re faced with tragedy and sorrow like this. We have to look at the good times. We have to look at all the happy things.
[7:42] I’ve just been reminiscing about her. One of the things, I’ll share with you. Tyla was rarely ever, ever, late for work. She and her husband has a small farm, and they loved animals. The only times I remember Tyla being late, she would call me, and say, Phil I’m going to be late, I’m sorry, but I’ve got to get the goats out of the road.
[8:19] Or, some of the cows have got out, and I’ve got to get the cows back up. I’ll be there as quick as I can. That’s fond memories I have of Tyla, and there are so many more. I could spend all day on this podcast talking about the fun times we had, and our families had, together, over the years.
[8:43] A special person, who can go through trials, and tribulations, and troubles in her life, and still come to work, and cheer other people on, and help other people, like she did all day long at work. Whether it was a co worker, or whether it was one of our customers, she was always positive. Making people smile, making people laugh.
[9:12] I talk a lot in my book about the soul and the spirit; how important it is that we have a healthy soul, and a healthy spirit. My question today is, “Is it well with your soul today?” I know. I know without a doubt, it is well with Tyla’s soul. I know where Tyla is. She’s with her Heavenly Father in heaven today. Is it well with your soul?
[9:47] The health of our soul; the strength of our soul; our mind, our will, our emotions, is so important. And it’s important that we do everything we can to keep that part of our being healthy, and that’s something that Tyla did.
[10:01] She was able to do that, because she was such a forgiving person. A loving person. I’m so thankful, so, so thankful, that I got to see all that, and watch somebody like her, that was an example to me, and an example to so many others in how she lived. That’s why I want to dedicate the superhero part to her.
[10:32] Today, our super, super, super hero is Tyla Toler. A faithful, a true, a loyal friend, to me, to my wife, my kids, to all the customers that we served over the years, she was a true, true friend, and a loving, and caring person. You are our hero, Tyla Toler, and I know, without a doubt, it is well with your soul.
[11:24] I encourage you today to examine your soul. Examine your life. Are you a forgiving person, like Tyla was? Because of her forgiving spirit, she had a strong and healthy soul. It’s important that we forgive the people that hurt us. It’s important that we forgive ourselves.
